The truth about weight loss injections - What you need to know

In the pursuit of weight loss, many people turn to injections. While they may seem like a quick fix, your weight is not the problem, your appetite is.

Injections make your appetite go away temporarily but when you need to come off them (and you will need to), your appetite will bounce back bigger than ever before.

There is evidence showing that use of semaglutide (Wegovy) is likely necessary to maintain weight loss, as stopping treatment leads to substantial weight regain.

STEP-1 Study Summary (2022)

The STEP-1 trial investigated the effects of semaglutide 2.4 mg (Wegovy) on weight loss in adults with obesity or overweight.

*Duration**: 68 weeks of treatment, followed by a 52-week off-treatment follow-up.

*Participants**: Adults without diabetes, with BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with weight-related conditions.

*Results at 68 weeks**:

Participants lost an average of *17.3% of their body weight** with semaglutide.

The placebo group lost around *2.4%**.

*One year after stopping treatment**:

Participants *regained about two-thirds** of the weight they had lost.

On average, *11.6 percentage points** of the original weight loss were regained.

(The Appetite Club: what is the total regain in 5 years, 10 years and the additional affect on the appetite?)

Conclusion: Continued use of semaglutide (Wegovy) is likely necessary to maintain weight loss, as stopping treatment leads to substantial weight regain.

The Hidden Dangers of Weight Loss Injections

Weight loss injections can lead to a range of side effects, including nausea, digestive issues, fatigue and even more severe complications like gallbladder problems and muscle loss. These medications work by suppressing appetite, but in doing so, they disconnect you from your body’s natural hunger signals—making it even harder to develop a healthy relationship with food in the long run. If your relationship with food is strained now, it will be calamitous once you come off the injections.
